House Touch Rugby Competition

On Saturday 8th January our first inter house competition for 2022 took place. The sport was touch rugby and both the girls and boys houses took part. The house competition ran for the duration of three weekends and each house fielded a team of six players consisting of two Y7-8 students, two Y9-10 and two Seniors, allowing for cross year group friendships and bonds to be strengthened. The atmosphere was thrilling, and all matches intense, with teams trying their best not to concede tries, and of course to come out victorious!

Students and teachers on the sideline got behind their teams and players, supporting them with cheers and applause, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere. The rugby skills that were on display were thoroughly impressive and demonstrated the talents of many of our players and the dedication that they have put into their trainings over the years and for some in recent months.

For the boys, Hawking House went into the lead after the first weekend winning both their games and looking a real threat, closely followed by Blake and Newton. The competition between them was tight and it came down to the wire in an electrifying final game between Hawking and Newton, where Hawking in the last few minutes of the game were able to score the necessary point to come out with the win.

The competition for the girls was much closer and it came down to the final weeks games to see which teams would take out the six places.

Fonteyn were always looking strong contenders with an excellent caliber of players. The athleticism of many of their members and high team spirit make them difficult to defeat. However, it has been outstanding to see Blyton during this year bringing to the house competitions a ferocious talent and desire to win. They will be a force to be reckoned with in future house competitions.

Thank you to all who contributed to the house competition. The final results were:

Girls Houses:

1st Fonteyn

2nd Blyton

3rd Austen & Cavell

5th Dove

6th Somerville

Boys Houses:

1st Hawking

2nd Newton

3rd Blake

4th Turner

5th Elgar

6th Scott
