S. Z (Pre A) is one of the 17 finalists in the Professional division shortlisted for the National Final of Steinway Piano Competition hosted by Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. S. Z is the only pianist coming from an international school - all the other competitors are trained by Beijing and Shanghai conservatories. She was enthusiastically supported by a delegate of WAIS representatives – B. Shen (Pre A), H. Liao (Y11), S. Wang (Y11), C. Shi (Y10), D. Pei (Y10), L. Ling (Y10), J. Jiang (Y10), and G. Chu (Y9). We thank Steinway China for the special provision so that WAIS musicians can experience the infectious fever of this biennial event.
With over 30 million pianists in China, the standard of performance is exceptional. S. Z performed Bach and Chopin with a high degree of musical maturity and technical virtuosity. She came very closed to being shortlisted for the final round. Only one female and five male pianists were invited to present their second programme on Saturday. S. Z was immensely popular with her fellow pianists and competition organisers. She has been a wonderful ambassador for WAIS. Although she did not win a prize in the National Final this year, S. Z is already aiming to go one further in 2019. Furthermore, S. Z has inspired her peers with her commitment to her craft. Well done and many congratulations, S. Z. We look forward to more excellent results from WAIS musicians in the near future.
