Lucas Guo, a year nine Intensive English pupil at WAIS, recently came back from Beijing where he participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge. There, teams of pupils, 12 to 18 years old, were challenged to create robots to compete in games. “I designed and programmed our robot. My teammates and friends helped make it more beautiful.” Lucas said. Out of 500 teams nationwide, only 16 competed in Beijing. Teamwork and problem-solving were essential skills pupils needed to exhibit to compete. pupils also practiced engineering and STEM skills throughout the competition. Lucas worked with a team of other pupils from various schools as well as an adult mentor to finish the final project. Their team scored 10th overall. Lucas is proud of his work and is already planning on participating next year. “The game was very difficult, but I had a good team, so I worked hard and look forward to the next challenge.” Congratulations, Lucas!
